Prevention: Set your children up for optimum health and wellbeing for life by learning about healthy food choices and optimum nutrition.
Each stage of a child’s growth and development has significant, specific nutrient needs. While it’s not always easy to change a child’s behaviours, using tailored strategies, I can help guide you and your child gradually through any behavioural changes necessary.
As a nutritional and environmental medicine practitioner I take the time to listen and get to know each child and parent holistically. Partnering in your child’s health care, you play an integral role in making decisions about your child’s treatment.
Paediatric Nutrition is about choosing the right foods and/or supplements, as well as implementing behavioural change, to provide optimum nutrients and nourishment to all the cells and organs of the child’s body. Foods and/or supplements should be age appropriate to the developmental stage of the child.
Every child’s health circumstances are unique and consequently their nutritional requirements are different. Optimal management of most conditions requires a thorough clinical and nutritional assessment to ascertain any imbalances (macronutrients and micronutrients), exclusion and challenge tests to detect food substances causing adverse reactions (allergies and intolerances), and appropriate blood/urine tests for significant toxins where indicated.
Through careful analysis of each child’s dietary choices & preferences, nutritional strategies can be applied to address health concerns or treat illness. Follow up monitoring is also required for optimizing long-term outcomes.
